Words Are Important

On March 23rd, 2011 I uploaded my first vlog to YouTube. The subject was on the difference between the Left Hand Path (LHP) and the Right Hand Path (RHP.) As I write this introduction, that was over seven years ago. While I still resonate with the label Left Hand Path, I feel that it is a flawed label. First off, it implies a strict dichotomy. There is an impression that the RHP is only selfless, compassionate and loving and the LHP must therefore be purely selfish, malicious and hateful.

The reality couldn't be further from the truth. While those on the RHP tend to consider themselves "Light-Workers" or something similar, if they aren't exploring and engaging with their own Shadow they are practicing an incomplete path. Likewise, the LHP practitioner shouldn't be some caricature of an evil villain. Those on the LHP are real people who have loved ones they care about and many even have the desire to make the world a better place in some way. Ultimately, I feel that LHP or RHP is an indication of the direction you are headed and how you intend to get there, but what really matters is whether you are engaging your path in a complete way or if you are unbalanced.

Left Hand Path vs. Right Hand Path (Video Transcript)

3.23.2011

Hello, my name is Jeremy Crow and in this video I am going to explain the difference between the Left Hand Path and the Right Hand Path in spirituality.

These are terms that in modern use mean they ultimately boil down to the goal of the spiritual path. And in the Left Hand Path that goal is self-deification or apotheosis, it's called. And this essentially works out to becoming your true potential, attaining your highest potential as a creative force in the universe and ultimately, the ideal is to be a persistent influence in the world which is a form of immortality. In the Left Hand Path, it is an individualistic path, and it glorifies the things that make you individual and unique.

In the Right Hand Path, these are usually the main stream organized religions that are out there in the world today and they ultimately focus on attaining a type of union with God or deity, usually Creator God, in Christianity it would be God or Yahweh some people say or Jehovah, that's just one example. Now any Right Hand Path religion focuses on collectivism and the ultimate annihilation of one's own Ego or personality, that which makes the individual unique in favour of uniting with God in the state of ultimate bliss. Typically what is said is this is either heaven or nirvana are terms that are used.

And that's the difference, essentially in a nutshell, in the modern Western usage of the terms Left Hand Path and Right Hand Path.
